Creating a dahlia border in your garden can be a fun and rewarding project, especially if you enjoy gardening and flowers. Dahlias are very well-suited for planting in a border. We will give you some valuable tips to create a fantastic dahlia borders.
It’s al about creativity and fun. Making your own dahlia border gives you plenty of opportunity to work outside and make something out of your garden. Experiment with different colors, heights or shapes. Dahlias bloom during the summer moths of the way to the beginning of fall. So you have plenty of time to combine multiple dahlia species, and to create unique combinations in your garden!

First, choose a perfect location for your dahlia border. Dahlias like to grow in full sun, so try ti pick a spot that receives at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. The ground should have well-drained soil as dahlias do not like to have “wet feet”. You can enrich the soil by adding compost or other fertilization methods. Dahlias like a fertile soil.
Next you select your preferred dahlias. Try to combine colors that match, or go wild by choosing all kinds of colors. Do you prefer dahlias of the same size / height? Plant dahlia tubers during spring after the threat of frost has passed. Lay the tubers horizontally about 10 – 15 cm deep, with the eye (where the new growth comes from) facing upwards. Give some room between the tubers, depending on the variety size.
Water your dahlias regularly, especially during dry spells, but avoid overwatering. Additionaly, you can apply a layer of mulch around the dahlias to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and keep the soil cool.

Make sure the soil of the ground is not too wet. Fertilization is always a good idea, but not always necessary. The place where the dahlias are planted need quite enough sunlight. Use mulch to keep the ground and soil healthy for the dahlia tubers.
